Remote Web Access site not accessible

Hi

Windows 2012 std with Essentials.

Remote Web Access site was not working so I removed remote stuff from Remote Access Management, released domain from Access Anywhere wizard and then re-ran Access Anywhere wizard to do all steps from scratch. However when I try to access the Remote Web Access site via remote.ourdomain.com I get;

500 - Internal server error.

There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

What can I do to fix it?

Thanks

Health Report - Windows 10

I manage a 2012 R2 Essentials server, and have recently upgraded the clients to Windows 10 Pro. After re-installing the connector everything seemed to work with no significant problems. However I have noticed that the health report constantly has warnings that the Windows 10 clients are missing updates.

If I "update" the clients, they find an update - I can't remember the number but a web search suggested it was the Defender definition update that always has the same one - and the Health status on the server immediately returns to OK. But the next day the status returns to "missing updates". This applies to every single Windows 10 client on the network.

This is a system that I run for a customer, and the Health Report is emailed to me every day. Constantly having the same "warning" means that either I must travel to the site every day to fix it, or alternatively I could ignore the warning, with the inevitable consequence that one day I will be ignoring something far more major on the assumption that it's the same problem. Neither of these are acceptable.

So what is the problem and how do I fix it? If this Defender update is a daily thing, can I make the health report ignore it? Or is it just timing - in Windows 7 I could schedule the updater to run at night, so everything was done before the health report was sent, but in Windows 10 Pro there does not seem to be a scheduling option. Alternatively, if I install a third party AntiVirus system, and disable Defender, will it stop trying to download the Defender definitions and therefore stop warning me about it?

At present my health report is largely pointless. Previously if the top line wasn't "all good" I knew I had an issue, but now I have to check the entire thing every day as the top line always tells me I have a bunch of critical errors/warnings.

I was troubleshooting a backup issue and ran SFC on our WSE2012 server, and files were found that were unable to be repaired. Here's the end of the CBS log:

Integration with Office 365

I have a fresh Server 2012 Essentials installation I am trying to integrate with my existing Office 365 account. But I cannot login to my account from the Dashboard - it says 'wrong email/password'. When I login via Internet Explorer there is no problem.

The version is Office 365 Personal and I realise this might be the problem. However I cannot find anywhere a limitation statement saying it is not possible to integrate Personal edition with Server 2012 Essentials. And I do not intend to install the Office software on the server. The purpose of the server is to take over from my old Windows Homeserver v.1

Here is output from PowerShell:

PS C:\Windows\system32> Enable-O365Integration

Connect Windows 10 Education edition client to Server 2012 Essentials

I want to connect a Windows 10 Education client to my new Server 2012 Essentials. The client is updated with the kb2790621 patch. When I try to connect I get past the welcome screen and the dotnet/restart introduction, but after a few moments the software just ends with no explanation.

I even tried to connect without a domain join but the result is the same. Is this a limitation in the education edition? According to Wikipedia the Education edition is essentially a Enterprise edition with a few tweaks, and domain join doesn't seem to be one of them. I have another Windows 10 client (Pro edition) and here the connection was seamless.

This is the ClientDeploy.log:

Windows Server Essentials Connector consumes the entire uplink when online via VPN

$

My server sits behind a Hardware VPN Firewall and I'm using a Windows 10 notebook.

When I connect to the network via VPN with a limited 1.1Mbps upload the Windows Server Essentials Connector shows as connected and after a short while it maxes out the upload speed. Sometimes this is due to a backup being started and others it's just a svchost process.

This makes the VPN useless, as activities such as Remote Desktop and folder browsing are unusable as they are so slow.

I can manually stop the backup, but not the scvhost, the only way to stop it is to disconnect the VPN, wait a few seconds and then reconnect. This has to be done each time the service restarts.

This is not convienient. Is there a way to stop the connector when on VPN?

Clientdeploy fails whilst validating user

I cannot join client computers to the domain on the Server Essentials 2012 system. When ever I try, the clientdeploy wizard fails with a message that it can't find the server, just after it has collected the domain account name and password. I'm assuming this is some configuration issue with IIS on the server, but I haven't got any handle on what it might be.

In the ClientDeploy Log, this is what I see:

Windows Server 2012 Essentials VPN disconnects when remote client prints through VPN. Everyone drops.. WEIRD!!

I have a very weird problem. We have 3 or 4 users that connect to the Windows 2012 Essentials anywhere access. They are using a Remote Desktop session to a 2nd in-house server that has QuickBooks on it. Everything is just fine until they print checks. If a user prints checks.. ALL VPN users get disconnected from the VPN at the same time. Each user than drops and has to reconnect and they can continue to use the VPN.  Initially I thought it was the QuickBooks server (old 2003 server) so I built a new 2012 server and it does the same exact thing.  So it isn't the server.  Also please note the VPN terminates on the Essentials server and not the QB server...  So I am guessing it is an issue on the essentials server.  Also we have a 100/20 Mbps internet cable modem.  I thought it could be a bandwidth issue...  but again it is printing within a Remote Desktop Session to a in-house printer not a printer at the remote location.  Very Weird..

1) I was going to give the remote user a new VPN connection to the firewall and bypass the Windows 2012 Essentials server to see if that works..

Rescue USB boot key does not see hard drive

I just purchased two new notebooks, different manufacturers, and for both of them when booting to the rescue USB key, the program can find the server, but it can't find any volumes on my notebook.

I have the same exact problem with Acronis and other imaging software.

I'm guessing this has to do with some BIOS setting, such as secure drive or AHCI or thunderbolt/USB but I've been unable to figure out how to get around this.

Without a solution to this, I will never be able to restore my hard drive.  Is there a solution?

Connector wizard fails to find server Windows 10

I just upgraded a client system from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The system was previously connected to Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2. I had to do a clean install to get Windows 10 to work correctly. I downloaded the latest connector software to connect to the SBS system. When I run the wizard it says that it is looking for the server but cannot locate it. The server is connected. I can see it in the file manager and I can connect to it through the file manager.

Not sure what the problem is. I cannot believe Microsoft has not address this problem yet. It appears that many people have had similar problems. I am running DHCP on the router, same as default and DNS on the Server Essentials 2012 box. Does anyone have any suggestions or a solution. I am at my breaking point and I am planning on ripping out the MS server box and replacing it with a Mac Mini running OSX server.

We have a very simple set-up Window server 2012 R2 Essentials with 6 client machines, one particular domain user gets automatically removed from member Group each time he logs off from network. I have to add him again what could be the reason for this.

Issue with Office 365 integration module

I have an issue with the Office 365 integration module on one of my customer's Windows Server 2012 Essentials servers.

Recently they switched to a new Office 365 plan, but the integration module still thinks the customer is on the old plan. This doesn't seem to affect functionality at all, so I think it's just cosmetic. On the Office 365 tab of the Windows Server Essentials dashboard, under Subscription it lists the old plan and says the subscription has expired. Under Licenses it says "your subscription includes 0 licenses" and "0 licenses are assigned to user accounts."

Steps I've tried to resolve this issue:

  1. Created a new Office 365 test user account (after switching plans) and then on the Windows Server 2012 Essentials dashboard clicked 'Change the Office 365 administrator account.' This made no difference.
  2. Uninstalled and then reinstalled the Office 365 integration module. Again, this made no difference.

I suspected there might be an issue in the Office 365 back-end, where the customer's Office 365 account was somehow still associated with the old plan, but they said that wasn't the case.

I opened a service request with Office 365 support about the issue with the server dashboard, but this was their response: "As we are online service support team, we provide limited support on local application extension...you may need to contact the Windows Server support team for further help."

As it seems to be just a cosmetic issue, I'm not going to open a paid service request with the Windows Server support team, but I'm interested to know if anyone on the forum has struck this issue before or has any suggestions.

DNS Issue on Desktops and Mobile (Android) Phones via WIFI

WSE2012

Recently had some DNS issues with client machines (Win7 pro) on my network using chrome. Client machine DNS on the NIC point to server IP addy.  Server settings specified Time Warner Cable's primary and secondary DNS servers. I placed Google's servers ahead of TWC's and the problem disappeared.

Mobile phones still have issues via WIFI.  I've searched for solutions on how to flush the DNS on the phones. The most popular option was a hard reboot. Turn off, take battery out, wait 30 seconds, power back up. I tried that on one phone with no luck. My phone's battery does not come out easily (Galaxy S6) so I have not tried it on more than the one device.  Phones are not rooted.

I realize this is sort of an Android issue, but the problems stems from a Windows environment, so I thought I'd ask here.

Anyone have a trick to flush the DNS on a mobile device?

As always, Thanks in advance.

Windows 10 Clients and Server 2012/R2 Essentials

$

We have a number of clients that have Windows Server Essentials 2012 and 2012R2 networks.  The client workstations are all Windows 7 Professional.  This combination has worked very well for everyone.  However, with the "free" Windows 10 upgrade soon-to-expire, we are getting questions about upgrading the client OS to Windows 10 Pro (and/or adding new Windows 10 computers to the existing network).  One reason we have held off on this is that I know there have been problems with Windows 10 and Server Essentials 2012.

Here is my question:  Does Windows 10 now work properly with Essentials, the connector software, etc.?  Or are there still issues/problems with this combination?  Understandably, I'd rather know about any looming potential obstacles prior to implementing the client OS upgrade.

Thanks very much.

Hi

We prefer to have DHCP running on server for LAN clients but for wireless users we also need DHCP on the router. How do we get round these two DHCPs on the same LAN issue?
