Invalid date/time for domain certificate while re-registering previous hostname for remotewebaccess.com

I just did a clean install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials on a Hyper-V box (Server 2012 R2 Standard with GUI) and went through the Essentials wizard just fine (checked the date and time, but they were already correct).  When I tried to set up Anywhere Access and re-use a hostname on the remotewebaccess.com domain, it gives me this error:

"The certificate for your domain is not valid according to the server's date or time.  This may be caused by the wrong date or time setting on your server.  Please ensure that your server has the right date and time and try again."

I can't stress enough that the date and time is correct, and was correct when the initial domain configuration was run during the Essentials setup.  It matches my Hyper-V host.  Initially, I had Time Synchronization turned on via the VM settings, but I tried turning it off and re-running the Anywhere Access wizard, and it still fails.

What can I check, and how do I fix this?  I didn't run into this problem the last time I installed Essentials 2012 R2.  I didn't play around with any certificate settings either, although I did check the Effective Date for every certificate and they start on 11-27-2013 at ~2PM, which is when I did the setup.

Also, I tried setting up a new remotewebaccess.com hostname, and the same error comes up.

I'm going to try a re-install of the OS in another VM and see what happens.  Will update if it happens again.

Unable to set up Office 365 integration on Windows Server essentials 2012 R2 Essentials

I am trying to integrate our Office 365 with a newly installed instance of Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2.

When i run the integration wizard in the Windows server essentials dashboard and supply my username and password for my Office 365 admin account, the wizard runs for a very long time, and returns "An unknown error occurred. Make sure that the computer is connected to the internet, and the try again. If you continue to to experience, restart the server and then try again".

I have tried to restart the server several times and reinstalling the server from scratch, but the error still appears.

When i try to integrate the server with another, separate trial Office 365 tenant, I am able to integrate, but when I try to integrate with this Office 365 tenant, the wizard always returns this error. This leads me to think that there is a problem with this specific Office 365 tenant.

We need this integration to work, and hope that you will be able to help us fix this error and get the integration with our server to work.

Windows Server Essentials Experience Role - Deployment in Active Directory Environment

Hello

I have a new domain with 2 x DCs working normally.

If I add the Essentials Experience role to a member server primarily for Remote Web Access, VPN and Direct Access, will this affect the existing Active Directory setup in any way? I see the Dashboard wants to manage everything including file shares, user accounts, Office 365 etc., etc., Is this going to be more trouble than it is worth?

Are there any blogs or field notes about using the Essentials Experience Role in a standard Active Directory environment?

Advice appreciated

Connector Installation Issues

Hi, I recently installed Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2 in a workgroup environment without issue and am trying to get the connector software working on all my clients. I had a 2011 server that ended up having some permissions/access issues and the connector software I used had issues. With uninstalling the old connector software on my MAC I was able to install the connector software but I am not able to uninstall and get working on a 8.1 machine.

The error message I receive is cannot connect this computer to the network

The server is not available. Try connection this computer again, or for more information, see Troubleshoot connecting computers to the server.

I've seen a couple steps of actions I could take including verifying local certificate, pointing DNS to server rather than router, and running a script to verify IIS but wanted to check with the community to see if they read this log as a DNS issue?

Thanks in advance!

KB2845533 Fails To Install

I have Windows Server 2012 Essentials, and Windows Update has been trying to install KB2845533 without success for months. It gives a Code 80244FFF error at the end. I've read a few articles, but I've not found anything on this. I also tried un-installing all non-security updates back through the last rollup (one at a time with reboots as prompted). I then let Windows Update attempt to install everything that I was missing, including KB2845533. It failed again. I'm not seeing any errors in Event Viewer. Windows Update does not want to go past this update. I'm looking for suggestions on how to proceed. I really don't want to have to do a full reinstall of the OS.

Thanks, Mark

Cannot integrate Office 365 into Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2

Currently on SBS 2003 and just migrated all email to office 365 a month ago (new office 365 account).  Next step was the new server...  Setup using Windows 2012 Essentials R2 and got it running last night however I can't get it to Integrate with Office 365.  I get "unknown error, make sure you're connected to the internet..."  I haven't added users to the server yet as I figured you could just import them from Office 365??  I've also checked our Sharepoint Sites (per Susan Bradley) and the Titles were populated (by the way Office 365 should be setup using English...) so I'm stuck.  Any suggestions!?

Edit: I just tried setting up a new Office 365 account and I'm getting the same error trying to connect to that one??  Internet is just fine on that machine as it just did a ton of updates.

Computer monitoring error

This started within the last 3 days for some reason - my WSE 2012 connector is showing a warning. In Alert Viewer I get a message from the server (Windows Server 2012 Essentials) that the server has a "Computer monitoring error" and that it can only partially assess the health of this computer.

The failing component is listed as: MicrosoftBase!CheckSBSbeforeUpgradeLocalUsersLimit

That's all I get. It provides no tips on how to resolve the error. Googling the error pulls up nothing. I've also tried remoting into the server, but the Dashboard isn't showing any issues on that end.

The error seems to imply hitting some sort of limit, but I'm nowhere near the 25 client limit. I also only have 2 local user accounts on the server so there should be no limit there as well.

Not sure if this is Win 8.2 related because I did the update on the client PC as soon as it was available and it was a few days later before I started seeing this error. All clients and the WSE2012 have all of the latest updates applied (via Windows Update, at least - no hotfixes that I know of are installed).

I'm not sure if this is an issue with my server or on the client...? The error makes it appear to be a server issue, but it's not appearing when I'm on the server machine...?

Any help would be greatly apprecited.

The Server Essentials 2012 client backup system is driving our customer nuts when they turn their workstations on in the morning.

I have disabled backup settings from each Device under the Dashboard on the server, and have also disabled the "Windows Server Essentials Computer Backup Service" service.

Can someone please help?!

I've just rebuilt a home server with Essentials 2012 r2. My two Win8 clients have connected fine, however a Win7 laptop fails to connect.

I get an error from the client connector saying "Server not available"

Looking at the logs on the failed client shows a few errors:

Is Windows 8.1 a compatible client OS for Windows Server 2012 Essentials 'R1'?

Hello,

Can a Windows 8.1 computer be connected to Windows Server 2012 Essentials 'R1', in the 'Get Connected in Windows Server Essentials' article on Technet (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj713510.aspx). Windows 8.1 is listed as a compatible client OS for "Windows Server 2012R2 Essentials" but it's not listed as supported operating system under "Windows Server 2012 Essentials". Does this mean that that Windows 8.1 is completely incompatible with the first version of Windows Server 2012 Essentials?

Thanks in advance.

Multiple file/folder sharing issues

I am having multiple issues with attempting to add a new server to our network.

The new server is running Windows Server 2012 Essentials.

It is going to replace a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.

This is a small business with fewer than 12 workstations. I have the new server set up to email a Health Report to me daily.

1. The old and new servers were having replication issues daily - I was getting messages to the effect that one was waiting for the other to respond while the other was not responding. However, I have not seen those error messages in my Health Reports in the last few days.

2. I setup a network share on one workstation pointing to the Company folder on the new server. However, the first time the user clicks on the shortcut t open this network share, they receive the following error message: "An error occurred while reconnecting Z: to (shared folder) Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored."

3. Another workstation displayed the following when attempting to map a network drive: "...not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)". Researching this error, I followed the recommendations found athttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684. I also turned off the autodisconnect feature of the Server service by runningnet config server /autodisconnect:-1 at the command prompt on the new server. No joy.

4. In Windows Explorer on yet another workstation, clicking on the name of the new server under "Network" returns the following error code:Error code 0x80070035 The network path was not found. Waiting a few minutes allows me to then see the shared folder on the new server on that workstation, but there seems to be a delayed reaction of several seconds before I can view the shared folder on that workstation.

These issues need to be resolved as soon as possible so that the new server may go into full use and the old server may be retired.

Windows Server 2012 essentials Remote media streaming

I am experiencing a problem with remote video streaming in windows 2012 essentials.  In the dashboard I have selected a folder named videos to be a streaming folder. The actual videos are broken up into many sub folders such as t.v shows then another sub folder with the name of the t.v show and then yet another sub folder for all the seasons of the show.  When I log on to remote web access the videos folder show zero files.  I have already tried moving a video file directly to the video folder, bypassing all sub folders.  Even with the video file directly in the video folder it still shows up as zero files when I go to the remote web access media streaming. Please help. Thanks!

Setting up users on a new Windows Server 2012 Essentials server, should I use Roaming Profiles or use Folder Redirection in WS2012ESS Dashboard?

Hi

I want to have users logging on to any client machine on a domain and have there profile follow them, I am unsure whether I need to set up the Profile path on the user accounts to create a roaming profile or should I use Folder redirection that is available to set up in Windows Server 2012 Essentials dashboard?  I see that I can redirect the appdata folder so I assume that will give me the same result as  a roaming profile?

What if I don't need Offline files? Should I ignore Folder Redirection and just set up Roaming Profiles?

Also Why does a Users Share get set up automatically when using Essentials experience role?  Especially If Folder Redirection is used?

Also If I did set up users using Folder Redirection would they still be able to remotely access there Documents using Remote Web Access?

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks

Issues installilng a new server

I have a 32-bit Server 2003 SBS and am installing a new 2012 server Essentials in its place.

I have tried to follow the migration guide, but it ask me to run the migration tool on the source server. The tool is not on the install disk. There is no "support/tools" folder on the disk. Attempts to find one have not yeilded anything.

The source does not use exchange or handle any email, just some applications and data files.

I am tempted to perform a clean install and start over with the workstations on the new domain.

Any thoughts or help?

Windows Server 2012 Essentials crashed regulary

Hi,

We have two servers on different hardware that are installed with Windows 2012 and are running Windows server 2012 essentials virtual machine.  For the past couple of months, we are experiencing multiple BSOD regularly.  The dumps showed "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE"  pointing to ntkrnlmp.exe. We have already tried disabling the anti-virus but it is still showing BSOD

On Fri 7/2/2014 4:43:52 PM GMT your computer crashed

crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\020814-28890-01.dmp
uptime: 18 days, 12:41:07
This was probably caused by the following module:

ntkrnlmp.exe(nt!KeBugCheckEx+0x0)
Bugcheck code: 0x9F (0x3, 0xFFFFFA8300CF7060, 0xFFFFF803960787F0, 0xFFFFFA830C7CF810)
Error:
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

Struggling with basic DHCP Setup Issue

Hi all, I'm having a few issues; we've just moved into a serviced office and I'm trying to set up a new Windows 2012 R2 Essentials server (1 DC with AD, DNS and DHCP services).  I've installed all the services and am trying to configure DHCP.

The company which runs the office have advised me that they have switched off DHCP at the router/modem level, and have provided the following details:

  • Default Gateway is 10.182.212.193
  • Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.240
  • IP range is 10.182.212.194-206

After installing DHCP services, I have completed the following steps:

  1. View Network Connections
  2. Select Properties of Ethernet connection (yes, it's plugged in, etc)
  3. View Properties for IPv4
  4. Set the IP address to 10.182.212.194
  5. Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.240
  6. Set the Default Gateway to 10.182.212.193
  7. Set the Preferred DNS Server to 10.182.212.194
  8. Set the Secondary DNS Server to 10.182.212.193

However, the issue is that I cannot connect to the Internet.  I can ping to 10.182.212.193 fine, but I can't ping to any Internet address.

Any idea at all as to where I'm going wrong?  Thanks!
