Event 1521 for All Logons on Windows 10

$

I am running Window 2012 R2 Essentials in a small police department environment. All machines connect wirelessly. When these were originally set up, they were with Window 8.1 Pro. No issues were had with logging in by the users. When we upgraded to Window 10 Pro, we started having intermittent issues with roaming profiles. Roaming profiles are necessary so anyone can log into any machine on the network.

It is now to the point where all users have issues with roaming profile. It is critical they be able to access their files. Here are some specifics:

An HP Z230 tower workstation was purchased in 2015 and configured with Windows 2012 R2 Essentials. No logon script was created. The Roaming Profiles were set up for each user. The server also serves as a print server for 2 printers - one wired and one wireless. There are no issues with connectivity as all machines can connect to the internet.

Security was checked. All user rights are set up correctly.

We're at wits end and need to get this resolved. Does anyone have any direction they could provide? Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Office 365 No Longer Working

Hi there,

I recently had a 2012 Essentials server that stopped syncing with Office 365 out of the blue. I noticed this because I attempted to add a new user and got an error stating that it was unable to create a user account on Office 365.

As a troubleshooting method, I disabled the integration and re-enabled it to see if the problem would alleviate itself. However, it only made things worse. The disabling was successful, but when trying to re-integrate, it says "An unknown error occurred while integrating" at the end of the wizard. Additionally, the Dashboard no longer reports any Office 365 information.

The main error that the log files are showing (this one from SharedServiceHost-O365ProviderServiceConfig.2.log) is this:
[28832] 161115.083505.5335: ProviderFramework: Information: [0] : PfErrorHandler: IGNORING WCF internal exception: (CommunicationException) The socket connection was aborted. This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue. Local socket timeout was '10675199.02:48:05.4775807'. ==> (IOException) The read operation failed, see inner exception. ==> (CommunicationException) The socket connection was aborted. This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue. Local socket timeout was '10675199.02:48:05.4775807'. ==> (SocketException) An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

It appears that the fact the SharedHostService.exe service keeps terminating unexpectedly is the culprit. It terminates with this error:
System.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a disposed object.

Does anyone have some insight on this problem? It appears to have started occurring after the last November 2016 Update Rollup. However, uninstalling this update and the October 2016 rollup does not alleviate the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Cannot Install Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Connector on Win 10 Pro Tablet since Anniversay Update

I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet running Windows 10 Pro that used to work well for several months with the Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials connector prior to the Win10 Anniversary Update. Since then, I cannot get it to complete installation of the latest"connector" software. I have several other desktops and laptops that have all worked well with the "connector" BOTH before AND after the Anniversary Update. Only the Dell tablet won't complete the "connector" installation.

When I  download and run the "connector" from my WSE 2012 R2 Server, the installation goes smoothly until the final configuration step when I get this message: "Windows Server Essentials Connector Configuration Wizard has stopped working". There are NO other error messages. I have tried installing the "connector" numerous times over the past several months without any success.

I've tried all of the recommendations I could find on the web including:
1. Removing the connector software.
2. Removing the "Windows Server" registry folders.
3. Removing the "Windows Server Essentials-Related" files/folders on the tablet's "C:" drive.
4. Running the "DISM..." routine and  "sfc /scannow" from an administrator command prompt.
5. Restarting the tablet numerous times.
-- and everything else I've found on the web.

But nothing works!!! I would really like to be able to back up my tablet to the server automatically once again, like it used to work before the Anniversary Update. That Anniversary Update caused me other headaches, too, but I've at least been able to find workarounds for those. Any help with my "connector" issue would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot integrate Office 365 with Server 2012R2

Initially, I had integrated Office 365 with Server 2012R2 so we could sync the passwords. This worked fine until recently. In the Windows Server Essentials Dashboard, all online accounts were shown as 'unknown', and when I tried to import online users (or do anything that required the online services) I got an error saying: "Cannot connect to Microsoft online services".

So, I thought I could remove the integration, and try to re-integrate it again. I removed the Azure Active Directory, and Office 365 integration. Which worked fine. However, when I want to integrate with Office 365 again, I get the error I used to get. To integrate Office 365, I took the following steps:

-Open the Windows Server Essentials Dashboard

-In Home, under Services, I went to "Integrate with Microsoft Office 365", and clicked on "Integrate with Microsoft Office 365".

-In the wizard I checked "I already have a subscription" and clicked next.

-I entered a valid user name/password combination and clicked next.

-I checked that I understand that the password policy will be set to strong and clicked next.

-Then a progress bar appears for a short while, and then I get the "Cannot connect to Microsoft online services" error again.

Does anybody know how I can resolve this?

accessing moved server folders after reinstall

Hello,

Searching all over but no answer found yet. Had to reinstall buggy OS. Per advice, had moved server folders to mirrored storage space in original install. Reattaching storage space to new install went smoothly enough but I can’t find option to point the new server folders on C drive to the existing server folders in the storage space. Is it possible or do I have to rename the saved folders, move the existing ones and transfer all the data over to the newly moved folders? Doesn’t seem right to me.

thanks

Downgrade Server 2012 r2 Essential to Server 2012 r2 Foundation

Hi,

Can i do so by downgrade from Windows Server 2012 r2 Essential to Windows Server 2012 r2 Foundation?

As currently if my customer is using a Windows Server 2012 r2 Essential trial without key, and later purchased Windows Server 2012 r2 Foundation? Is it possible to downgrade without messing the data in the server? Or without reinstall the server?

BSOD Loop Critical Process Died

Hi,

I have FJ Primergy TX1310 M1 with 2 x 1TB SATA drives in RAID1 on an LSI MegaRAID Controller, 16GB RAM. server 2012 essentials

I has been on customers site working away for a couple of months. 2 days ago the system installed updates and restarted. I got a call to say customer couldn't access SQL server. Connected screen and saw 'Updating - 7%'. Told them to leave this to complete.

Next morning still on 7%. Got them to hard reset. Just kept on getting to 7%. Went on site, did the same for me.

Booted in WinRE and did DISM /image:c:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions, then rebooted

no updates, but BSOD - bad_system_config_info. Tried last known good configuration - same BSOD

copied registry files from regback folder in config. Now getting BSOD critical_process_died

To complicate matters WinRE is seeing raid drives as 2 separate drives, so my registry fix wasn't the same on both disks.

I did a RAID BIOS Consistency check, which said it fixed this. Still getting BSOD critical_process_died

Cant run SFC /Scannow as I get error about system repair pending which requires reboot.

tried running DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /scanhealth

tried running DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /checkhealth

tried running DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth

but all 3 reported that the /cleanup-image option is unknown, although I checked help and the commands are avaialble?!?

Don't know what to do next. I have backed up to an external HDD, but the original install was a complete nightmare with the FJ serverview install kept failing. So don't want to do that again.

Any ideas please, I'll be eternally grateful.

WSE 2012 "Updating and preparing your server" hangs at 0%

I am installing on a 64-bit Intel CPU. Installation works fine until I get to the "updating and preparing" step. Once that screen appears it never gets past 0% (it does not start at all). In another thread there was a discussion about networking issues. Just before this step I can see the networking icon and it looks normal. If I open a command prompt while I am frozen at zero % and run ipconfig I had an IP address and networking looks normal.

How can I get past zero %?

Thanks.

Hello,

I am at my wits end here. I have recently built a windows server 2012 Essential server and have successfully connected a win 10 Pro build 1511 build 10586 PC using the http:/Server/connect connector download and install - all went fine. I have  a second more important machine (win 10 Pro 1607 build 14393 that I cannot get the connector to install.

The problem is windows10.0-KB2790621-x64.msu will not install.

The PC can see all shared folders just fine on the server.

I have upgraded windows 10 again - no avail. I have removed all traces of the connector and tried again - no avail. I have downloaded the connector directly from Microsoft - same result. I have spent days looking for resolution. Repaired the windows update service, scanfc - nothing seems to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Computer monitoring error

I have Windows Server 2012 Standard with the Essentials Experience role enabled.  On my daily health reports, I receive the following error:

Computer Monitoring Error

Alert details: Cannot access the health of this computer because PowerShell is not available.

Obviously, PowerShell is installed and therefore should be available.  I cannot figure out how I am getting this error or how to fix it.

A go0gle search only turns up a bug that existed in previous versions of Windows Server Essentials but the solution does not apply to Windows Server 2012.

Has anyone seen this?  Does anyone know how to fix it?

Server Essentials 2016 RWW Broken

RWW stops working on the server essentials 2016 after about 24 hours. After reboot everything starts working again. Router has 443 open and has been rebooted. Can RDP into the server and can VPN into the server. RWW just stops working. Event logs don't show anything but a CAPI problem. Services all started but there must be one of them that is dependent on RWW that is timing out after 24 hours. I thought it might be a certificate issue because the remote users trying to access did not run the connector program but they can access RWW after a server reboot which would eliminate a certificate issue. I am not sure where else to look or turn too fix this issue. Thanks.

Windows Server Essentials Restore single file from backup

I have the following problem:
I need to restore a single file from a client computer backup.

The issue:

The client backup shows as successful, however if the client system is OFFLINE, I do not get the option to "Restore files or folders for the computer".

As you can see, the last backup was successful for the one system in question, but the link on the right for restoring is missing. In fact, it is missing on ALL offline computers minus one (which is actually online although the dashboard shows it as offline).

Checking backups tells me there were no errors in the database.

How do I fix this so I can restore files from the existing backup?

Shared Folder on User Computer in Windows Server 2012 Essentials Domain

Hi,

We have a Windows Server 2012 Essentials domain consisting of Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Pro computers.  One user syncs his OneDrive to his local drive and shares the local OneDrive folder with his admin staff.  The folder share was set to share Read/Write permission with "Everyone" and the admin staff accessed the OneDrive share with their domain user name and password.  About two weeks ago, the Windows 7 user lost access to the shared OneDrive and yesterday, the Windows 10 user lost access to the shared OneDrive.  Now when the admin staff tries to access the shared OneDrive, it prompts for User Name and password with the error message that the user name or password is incorrect.  When running the troubleshooter, it says the user does not have permission to the shared drive.  I have added "Authenticated User" and the two specific domain users to the Advanced Permissions sharing tab, but still no luck.

We can ping the computer successfully from each computer and the correct IP address responds.  I have tried mapping the drive to either the IP address of the computer or the ComputerName, but still no access.

All updates have been applied to the server and the user computers.  All of the shares on the server work without issue.

Hope you can help with this issue.  Thank you.

PCI Scan is giving below failure;

Port 443 Protocol TCP Service www SSL Medium Strength Cipher Suites Supported Here is the list of medium strength SSL ciphers supported by the remote server :

Medium Strength Ciphers (> 64-bit and < 112-bit key) TLSv1 DESCBC3-SHA Kx=RSA Au=RSA

Enc=3DES-BC(168) Mac=SHA1 The fields above are : {OpenSSL ciphername} Kx={key exchange}

Au={authentication} Enc={symmetric encryption method} Mac={message authentication code}

How can I fix this?

I am using below protocols and ciphers as per PCI 3.1 I think.

cannot connect this computer to the network. the server is not available. try connecting this computer again - Windows Essentials 2016

Hello,

Every time I try to connect the clients to the server I get the following message. This is a brand new install and we can access the server from outside the network but nobody can access the server from inside the network. We keep getting the following error message.

"cannot connect this computer to the network. the server is not available. try connecting this computer again"

I have completed the IPCONFIG/ALL prompt on the server, released the client from the IPCONFIG/RELEASE, restarted and then completed a IPCONFIG/ALL on the client and still no luck.

I have used the work around from 2012 addition and once I run that prompt it in the Command Prompt (ADMIN) it says access granted.

I uninstalled the connector software and reloaded the connector software and I still get the above error message.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thank you,

Matt

Issue with Office 365 integration module

I have an issue with the Office 365 integration module on one of my customer's Windows Server 2012 Essentials servers.

Recently they switched to a new Office 365 plan, but the integration module still thinks the customer is on the old plan. This doesn't seem to affect functionality at all, so I think it's just cosmetic. On the Office 365 tab of the Windows Server Essentials dashboard, under Subscription it lists the old plan and says the subscription has expired. Under Licenses it says "your subscription includes 0 licenses" and "0 licenses are assigned to user accounts."

Steps I've tried to resolve this issue:

  1. Created a new Office 365 test user account (after switching plans) and then on the Windows Server 2012 Essentials dashboard clicked 'Change the Office 365 administrator account.' This made no difference.
  2. Uninstalled and then reinstalled the Office 365 integration module. Again, this made no difference.

I suspected there might be an issue in the Office 365 back-end, where the customer's Office 365 account was somehow still associated with the old plan, but they said that wasn't the case.

I opened a service request with Office 365 support about the issue with the server dashboard, but this was their response: "As we are online service support team, we provide limited support on local application extension...you may need to contact the Windows Server support team for further help."

As it seems to be just a cosmetic issue, I'm not going to open a paid service request with the Windows Server support team, but I'm interested to know if anyone on the forum has struck this issue before or has any suggestions.

Users and Devices Disappear from Dashboard

A few weeks ago, we set up a Windows domain with four Windows 2012 R2 servers and about 18 desktops and laptops all running Windows 8.1. On one of the servers, I enabled the Windows Server Essentials role, and this machine is serving as the domain controller. I joined the workstations to the domain using the http://<servername>/connect method. All of the users and workstations showed up in the Essentials dashboard. After things were set up and after experimenting, I moved the users and workstation computers into different OUs in Active Directory, but they all still appeared in the dashboard.

For the last week or so, when I go into the dashboard in either Users or Devices, it usually just shows nothing except "There are no items to display". Sometimes the users and devices will be there at first, but then disappear, and occasionally they reappear briefly before disappearing again. All users and computers are still in AD and function normally, they are just inaccessible from the dashboard.

In the Users section, if I click the Refresh task, I get the error:

The users provider is currently out of service. Try again later. Cannot refresh users

Another symptom is that it takes a long time for the dashboard to open, or at least, longer than it did before this problem.

Last week, I had to reboot the server for a different reason, and it seemed the dashboard was okay after that. I don't normally go into it every day, but when I checked a few days later, I had the problem again.

Any ideas of what is going on or where to look?

FYI, the servers are all running as virtual machines on VMware vSphere 5 Essentials.

C: space low...how come?

I haven't installed any software on my system drive other than that which came with the server. I got a message this AM that space on the system drive is low...about 20 GB left out of the initial 238. Is this a problem? If I need to migrate the system drive, suggested procedure, please.

Thanks!

How do I get 2012r2 Essentials role to forward OWA to Exchange 2010sp3?

$

Migration from SBS 2008r2.  I have a 2012r2 server running Essentials as an add on for anywhere access, exchange is on a 2012 server.  Owa works internally with the local server name.  Anywhere access works as far as accessing Remote Desktop and local folders.  Essentials is aware of Exchange, and will create new email accounts with new users.

When trying to access OWA with the outside domain name, it gets to the Essentials server with a 404 error.

I assume I missed something in the setup, but don't know where.  Is there a setting in Essentials or IIS that will forward OWA (and imap) to the Exchange server?  All I can find are redirects for OWA that bypass the Essentials server/domain controller but I need to go through the Essentials server for Anywhere access/remote desktop.

How to enable Windows 2012 R2 as EAP-TLS Radius Server

$

I am facing an issue while configuring Windows Server 2012 R2 as Radius Server, In my setup, i want to use:

1. Windows 2012 as Radius server for EAP-TLS clients

2. I want to use my own certificates, root, server and client

3. I know that i've to configure NPS for :

  • Radius client, this is a 802.1X capable Cisco switch
  • I've to add an CRP, connection request policy
  • I've to add a NP, network policy
  • I've to somehow provide my certificates to Windows Server 2012 R2, but dont know where and how. I tried adding them by MMC, but there are some issues of Windows, which says, some TRUST error in EventViewer logs, when i connect a supplicant(which sends Client certificates to Windows Server 2012 via Cisco switch).

Could anybody guide me.
