User Folders no longer able to save/create files/folders after a few hours of operation

I am having a very strange error.

I have a server 2012 R2 Essentials, and have about 11 users on the network. All my PC's are running windows 10 Pro and have been working great.

However, over the last few months, i am having an error that the users, after using their PC for a few hours, are unable to save files or create folders in any of their user folders. All the user folders are redirected to the server. Documents, Pictures, Desktop and so on.

It is very strange. after rebooting, it works fine for a few hours and then happens again. I have tried every i know. I have removed the user, removed the PC from the server and network, I have removed the user from the PC and made sure there are no trace in reg or anywhere.

I rejoined the PC to the domain, and worked fine for a few hours and then happens again. I have this issue with a few users. No new software or anything. just the normal windows and server updates as published by Microsoft.

the error code i get on the screen is: Error 0x80070016: The device does not recognise the command.

Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

CSP license compatibility with the Office 365 integration in Server Essentials 2012 R2

$

I work for an MSP and we've migrated a customer's email from SBS 2011 running Azure AD Connect to Office 365. Now that's done, they want to replace their SBS 2011 server with Server 2012 R2 Essentials on a new machine.

Azure AD Connect is not supported on Server 2012 R2 Essentials, so I'll need to use the Office 365 integration in the Server Essentials. I believe I can deactivate sync on the tenant and start it back up without too much difficulty, but this customer is licensed under the CSP model (Cloud Service Provider) and the Office 365 integration doesn't pick up any CSP provided Office 365 subscriptions. My worry is that the configuration wizard will fail and we'll be blocked if no subscriptions are found on the tenant.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Transition to Windows server 2012 R2 standar

Hello,

I guess you all must one day did a transition from Win2012r2 Essentials to Stander, And I need your experience. I read in this artical about the transition but there are a lot of missundestanding.

Our problem is just that we are planing to recrut new people and we are going to be more than 25 user. In the artical they say that if you buy the Standar key, and write a cmdlet in the powershell with that key this will  solve the problem  and you are going to keep the Essential but with 100 users limite and no need for migration or updrade (Exactly what we want). And in the same Artical in "important" they notice that we need cal for each user.

I'm confused... Please guys Help.

P.S: we need to do the transition on the AD.

Generic Duplicate drives appeared in Storage Pool

I have a USB 3.0 enclosure with 2 Seagates (4TB and 2TB) and 2 WD Greens (2TB ea).

I needed to turn off my server. I chose update and shutdown. When I brought it back up, my Storage Pool is unavailable. Without taking any other steps except viewing storage in the dashboard to see that the volumes were not showing up, I rebooted. Then I open manage storage pools and see I have eight drives listed. The 4 correct drives say okay, and the 4 other drives named JMicron Generic DISK0[1-4] SCSI Device say 'retired - remove and replace' for disk00 and 'Disconnected - reconnect' for disk01-03.

I have no idea where to go from here, and I'm having trouble finding an answer with Internet Search. There was a hotfix for problems with enclosures, but doesn't apply to R2.

How do we set up our new Windows Server 2012 R2 computer as the main server in a Work Group?

Meaning that the other computers in the Work Group will all operate independently of the main server. But we want the main server to be able access each such satellite machine by means of shared drives.

The instructions from Microsoft that we have seen thus far are for a different kind of arrangement.

Server 2012 Essentials and Surface Pro 4 Backup Issue

I have a 2012 Essentials server  that currently backs up 8 machines - both desktops and laptops. I now have a MS Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 Pro that I want to backup. I am getting the following error: "An error prevented Backup from creating a snapshot of the volumes on this computer". There is room in the System Reserve partition of 550 mb. The backup service is running on the Surface Pro, the Windows Server client computer backup service is also running. Also, the Surface Pro is using UEFI/GPT. (I am already backing up another laptop that is using UEFI/GPT without an issue.) Plenty of room on system drive AND in the system partition.

Any idea of what the issue might be?

(I may have posted this on the incorrect forum - am reposting in the Essentials Forum)

Thanks.

I tried loading Windows 10 on my 2012 server (3 1TB HDD's, plenty of space), but the Win10 can get past location screen.

Sounds like I screwed myself...but question is how can I get my Server back. Will I have to wipe all 3 HDD's and start all over? Machine seems to not want to boot fro Server DVD either...goes right back to Win10 location screen.

Server Essentials 2016 RWW Broken

RWW stops working on the server essentials 2016 after about 24 hours. After reboot everything starts working again. Router has 443 open and has been rebooted. Can RDP into the server and can VPN into the server. RWW just stops working. Event logs don't show anything but a CAPI problem. Services all started but there must be one of them that is dependent on RWW that is timing out after 24 hours. I thought it might be a certificate issue because the remote users trying to access did not run the connector program but they can access RWW after a server reboot which would eliminate a certificate issue. I am not sure where else to look or turn too fix this issue. Thanks.

Alert Evaluations and large number of failed logons

Hi

I'm seeing loads of failed logins on one of our Windows Essentials boxes. About 3 a second. The event logs show that it's a bad username originating from the server itself. I've checked for services with bad details but none are there.

Could this be Alert Evaluations? IF so, any idea how to resolve this?

Licence Windows server Essentials 2012 Trial Version with Windows Essentials 2016 Key

$

Good morning, I have a virtual machine that was installed with the trial version of Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2.
All the tests have been completed and I would now like to license this machine.
It turns out that I can no longer find any Server Essentials 2012 R2 licenses.
I only find in distributors of Microsoft in Portugal, Server Essentials 2016 licenses.

Is there still some way to get the Server Essentials 2012 R2 license?

If it is not possible, can I license the machine with Trial Server Essentials 2012, with a Server Essentials 2016 key?

If neither of these 2 options is possible, what is the best solution, without having to reinstall the whole machine with Server Essentials 2016 again?

Thank you, regards.

Port 80 issues on Windows Server 2016 installation. I have started installing Windows Server 2016 Essentials on Nov 14, 2016.

I am to the point where it is going to install "access from anywhere" but tells me my port 80 is contaminated.

I have no idea what they are talking about. Port 80 obviously not on my server I am installing on as I formatted the disk.

On router? On the cable internet supply?

Give me some hints on how to clear up port 80. But for a docker elementary sample I have never fiddled with port 80!

Server 2016 Essentials RDP session - no keyboard or mouse

$

After installing the latest build 14393.rs1_release_inmarket.161014-1755 I'm having this problem.

When reconnecting to a previously disconnected but running desktop session, after authentication I receive a black screen and shortly thereafter the session quits with the following error:

"Failed to reconnect to your remote session.

Please try to connect again."

This behavior is the same with MS RDP client in both Windows 10 and Android MS RDP client version 4.2.

If I connect from Linux the behavior is slightly different.  Here I am able to connect to the session and see the desktop but I'm not able to get a response from keyboard or mouse.  It's as if the session is not listening for input.  The session remains alive (animations continue to update e.g. clock) until I disconnect.

So far the only way I'm able to restore normal RDP session behavior is to reboot the server.

Connector not creating SPN and dnshostname

Hi,

Connecting in machines via the connector. The account is created on server. However no SPN Or dnshostanme is being created within the account. I have created those by hand and trust has been established. This has occurred on the last 2 machines.

This issue has just cropped up after setting up 5 other machines with no issues. I have another 20 to go. I would prefer that the connector works as prescribed.

Any ideas why those items are not being created?

Thanks

Server Error in /Remote Application (Anywhere Access) Server 2012 Essentials R2 after log in

$

I set up anywhere access on my Server 2012 R2 Essentials Server, it worked after I first set it up but soon after I started getting the error "Server Error in /Remote Application"  I am able to get to the server login web page from a remote location and my login credentials are accepted but then I get  the error, it also says " An error occurred while processing your request. Additionally another exception occurred while executing the custom error page for the first exception. The request has been terminated"  If I try to go to the default web page from IIS manager, I login and get the following:

Method not found: 'Void System.Security.Claims.ClaimsIdentity..ctor(System.Security.Claims.ClaimsIdentity)'.

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

[MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'Void System.Security.Claims.ClaimsIdentity..ctor(System.Security.Claims.ClaimsIdentity)'.]
   System.Web.Security.FormsIdentity..ctor(FormsIdentity identity) +0
   System.Web.Security.FormsIdentity.Clone() +35
   System.Security.Principal.GenericPrincipal.AddIdentityWithRoles(IIdentity identity, String[] roles) +57
   System.Web.Security.FormsAuthenticationModule.OnAuthenticate(FormsAuthenticationEventArgs e) +338
   System.Web.Security.FormsAuthenticationModule.OnEnter(Object source, EventArgs eventArgs) +88
   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +80
   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +161

To me it looks like the anywhere access web pages are broken, I tried De-activating and re-activating anywhere access many times, I tried the Anywhere access repair option many times, I get no errors from repair or activation but I still can't get the web page to come up after log in.

Is there a way to completely re-install Anywhere Access on Server 2012 R2 Essentials ?

Any other Ideas on how to fix this problem ?

Errors connecting to Office365

I have multiple clients that are running Server 2012 R2 Essentials whose dashboards are no longer properly connecting to Office365.  These have been running fine for quite some time, but all of a sudden All users show "unknown" under Microsoft online account.

I also cannot change the Administrator account/password used to connect to Office365 - it says it cannot connect and to check internet settings (which of course are fine).

If I open the SharedServiceHost-EmailProviderServiceConfig.log, this line jumps out at me

[13640] 161108.192536.1004: UpdateCachedSkuInfoTask: failed to connect to https://www.microsoft-sbs-domains.com/Productivity/en-US/Skus.xml within the WebException: The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request., status: ProtocolError

I originally posted this in the Exchange online forum but it was suggested to post here.  Anyone else seeing this recently?

Fresh Install, Updated, then problems

Hi,

I've installed Win2012 R2 Essentials (it's the HP ROK) on my HP Microserver and since doing will the OS updates I've got a number of things not working quite right.  Advice very much appreciated please...

My process steps were:

  1. Initial install, enabled MS updates, setup the domain (via the wizard) and allowed RDP access.
  2. The first 212 updates installed and rebooted, then I've had 2 more further groups of updates... I've accepted them all, optionals as well, rebooting between each set.
  3. Installed the Media XP update
  4. Installed all the HP updates
  5. Moved the server folders initially created to another hard drive (so not on the C drive)
  6. Installed Dropbox, Google Chrome, Google Drive and stopped their update services
  7. Installed Plex and pointed it at appropriate server folders
  8. Added the Azure Backup Add-in
  9. Changed the language from English (US) to English (UK)
  10. Added a couple of standard users (but I'm still using the Network Admin role to configure the server)
  11. Tried to configure access anywhere but it doesn't work to work with my uPnP router (I'll configure it manually if this install works in the end)

Problems I've got:

  • I can't add any folders...  I get error "The task "Add a Folder" did not complete successfully" when I click Add a folder in the dashboard
  • The dashboard has strange markings...
  • Critical error in the RDS.  I'm connecting using RDP ok on the internal network.

Should I format and install again and do my configuration before installing the MS updates?
