Hi everybody,
I am currenlty facing a strange problem and i.e. Unable to create a user via Dashboard. I have updated, restarted several times but to no avail.
For a over a week now I have been having Server backup failures of the 2012r2E server to a Synology NAS setup with a iSCSI drive, on my network.
The backups worked for a year with only an occasional failure when there was shortage of drive space on the NAS. But after automatic backup cleanup by Server it will work again.
Now I have continued failures with the following errors listed:
“The shared restore point operation failed with error (0x81000101) The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try this operation again.
In the event viewer, found the following errors:
The backup operation that started at ‘?**** has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code ‘2155348001’. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.”
I also noted this error in the error logs of the server,
“10212016 Level: Error

User: N/A
Computer: WHServer.xxxxxxxx.local
Description:
File Server Resource Manager Service error: Unexpected error.
Error-specific details: Error: GetVolumeInformation, 0x80070017, Data error (cyclic redundancy check)”.
There are other errors in the error logs but not sure if they are relevant to this issue or not.
Here they are:

I have the backup task set to backup once a day from 0200 to 0900 .
I noted that it starts on time but only gets to 85% in progress by 0900 and is going very slowly to86% stays this way for hours before showing it then fails.
I also noted that Dashboard shows on home tab get started screen that Server Backup is” N/A” after failure but “ON” during the time it is at 85% prior to 0900.
I noted that Health monitoring tab shows critical alert: A scheduled backup did not finish successfully at 0511am today’s date, even though it is showing running at 84%-85% prior to 0900 and then 86% by 10:00am, then 87% by 11:00am even though the errors conserning failure of the back are already present..
The NAS iSCSI drive in storage tab shows Synology iSCSI Server Backup = Capacity 1.4TB, Used 1.2TB, Free Space 257GB. 257GB has been enough in the past to have a backup succeed.
When I try to Customize backup for server in Devices tab to reset to defaults the status stays forever at the server backup setup screen .
I know this post is lengthy but I thought more info is better that less, to ask for help on this issue.
Please help!

Hi,
I'm having problems getting remote users access to shared folders over the connector installed VPN. I get an error saying Windows cannot access..... checkname etc. Also the the connector app in the tray is greyed out.
However the VPN connects fine and if I run the command \\192.168.0.2. (server ip) I get the full list of folder and can access them fine. i can also do a mapped drive to an individual shared folder and can access it fine. However I can't map the 'shared
folders' folder to see all the shares together.
Any ideas? I would like the shared folders link to work ideally or at least be able to map a drive to show all shared folders.
Hi,
I know this is not the right post but we are trying to migrate one of our clients over to 2016 and they have issues with the sbs2011 and we need disk 2.
Does someone have a link for a download?
I just added two new disks to my WSE-2016 setup for backups.
I formatted them with Disk Manager and they appear fine with say File Explorer and in the Dashboard under Storage/hard Drives they also appear. Yet within "Create Storage Space/Show formatted drives that are not there.
I want to use these two drives for client backups and the actual server backup. It looks like WSE-2016 requires two separate drives for this (unlike WHS). I suppose it's a built in software RAID. Anybody got newbie step by step instructions how to get these drives to hold my two types of backups.
Related... Of the two drives one is 3T the other 5TB in size. Am I wasting 2TB here and I should make both 3TB . Do the two drives have to be physical separate drives or could I say use 3TB on both for client backups and split the remaing 2TB into 1+1 TB for the server backups.
Thanks
John
I am thinking of upgrading my WHS to WS 2016 Essentials. Is this server software a logical progression from WHS. All I see is stuff about the Cloud etc. which I have no use for. I just want a home server to backup my 3 or 4 PC's overnight and supply movies from hard disk storage. Is it difficult to get WS 2016 Essentials into this format.
Second, should I install it on top of WHS 2011 are would I be better off with a clean disk.
I am hoping someone is familiar with this issue. I've par oozed through all of these different articles and none of them have yielded any positive results. My windows 10 pro machine running version 1607 build 14393.321. It will not allow me to setup my connector software. I can get to the part where it says its "configuring your computer" then it throws a window that says "Windows Server Essentials Connector Configuration Wizard has stopped working" with a description that says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I close the program and then nothing. I've tried performing the registry removals, dns fixes and deletion of the folders in system32 and program data. I've tried installing from my local user profile, my domain profile, and nada. This computer was previously joined to my domain and connected prior to upgrading to this current windows 10 build. I cannot get it to reinstall now. I am pasting the log below and a snapshot of what I am seeing. I am at a loss and hoping someone knows what's up.

Hi Forum,
I'm using a Windows Server 2012 Essentials for my home network.
I had WSUS installed but didn't really use it, so I uninstalled it. This was a few days ago. I also did an OS update on Friday and restarted the server.
However, I recognized that my IIS services are broken now. I get an error 500.19, which is, according to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942055/en-us that I'm missing two DLL files.
1: C:\Program Files\Windows Server\Bin\Wssg.Web.dll
2: C:\Program Files\Windows Server\Bin\WssgCommon.dll
I can't say if there is anything more broken, I just think that maybe the DLLs got deleted when I uninstalled the WSUS, but I can not find a repair installation option for the IIS server.
Is there a way to restore the IIS configuration (websites...) after an uninstall and reinstall of IIS?
Can you help me here?
Thank you!
I've connected the PC Clients to Server 2012 using the Connect Software and like the functionality, so when I had Mac clients I thought I'd do the same thing. The client installed fine, but people are complaining of wheels spinning and long wait times accessing their files from the Server Shares. Has anyone experienced similar issues? What are the ramifications of uninstalling the Connect software from the Mac's? Thx in advance ..

Hi I have just installed Windows Server 2012 and trying to give access to the users. The users are on windows XP Pro SP3 remote desktop client (Shell and control version 6.1.7600 with Remote Desktop Protocol 7.0 support).
I have enabled the windows server 2012 remote desktop users through "control panel -> systems and security -> Remote access" for the users. When I try to connect to the windows server as administrator, it is getting connected. But when I try to connect as other users I get the following message.
"To sign in remotely, you need the right to sign in through Remote Desktop Services. By default members of the Administrators group have this right. If the group you're in does not have the right, or if the right has been removed from the Administrators group, you need to be granted the right manually."
Is there any other setting to be done to eanble the Remote Desktop for the users.
Hi Everyone,
We have had a few clients who over the last couple of weeks have had their Windows 2012 R2 Essentials Dashboard stop syncing accounts to Office 365. I have checked the firewall. I have removed and re-linked a domain to Office 365 but still accounts show as unknown and I cannot add microsoft online accounts. If I click the Office 365 tab it displays the information about the tenant normally.
Has anyone got a solution for this?
I am having a very strange error.
I have a server 2012 R2 Essentials, and have about 11 users on the network. All my PC's are running windows 10 Pro and have been working great.
However, over the last few months, i am having an error that the users, after using their PC for a few hours, are unable to save files or create folders in any of their user folders. All the user folders are redirected to the server. Documents, Pictures, Desktop
and so on.
It is very strange. after rebooting, it works fine for a few hours and then happens again. I have tried every i know. I have removed the user, removed the PC from the server and network, I have removed the user from the PC and made sure there are no trace
in reg or anywhere.
I rejoined the PC to the domain, and worked fine for a few hours and then happens again. I have this issue with a few users. No new software or anything. just the normal windows and server updates as published by Microsoft.
the error code i get on the screen is: Error 0x80070016: The device does not recognise the command.
Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.
I'm a WHS 2011 user that just upgraded to WSE-2016 for home clients backups and movie streaming (nothing more).
I have been backing up my (6) client computers on the server and wanted to create a USB recovery key in case I need to repair them.
When I go to Dashboard / Client Computer backup Tasks / Create (USB) key I get a message "The USB flash drive cannot be created because the server cannot find WinPE on the system."
Sends me to a confusing web page “Download the Windows ADK”. Why would I need a development kit? Worse there are two “Windows 10 versions (1607 & 1511). Not clear which I need. There is other stuff there as well. Nothing about WinPE BTW!
Can somebody tell me what this is all about. Why is it not on the WSE-2016 DVD/ISO image?
Thanks in advance
John
Is the a way to actually prevent further client backups, (seldom used clients), but not remove them from the dashboard\devices list so that at a later date they could be restored to that last backup.
Hello,
I'm having a Seagate NAS-server that comes with Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials (I didn't find another forum to ask a question about this platform - if I'm on the wrong one, I apologize, and please direct me to the correct forum.)
Every day, I get a warning message. As this is a Dutch installation, I will give the error in Dutch, and give a free translation below it:
Dutch:
"De status van deze computer kan slechts gedeeltelijk worden beoordeeld. De niet goed werkende onderdelen zijn: HealthAddIn!BigWarningErrors"

"The status of this computer can be judged only partially. De faulty parts are: HealthAddIn!BigWarningErrors"
This message relates to one of the computers connected to the domain of the NAS-server running WSS. I have the feeling that this is also the reason why it sometimes misses a daily backup.
Thanks for your support!
Hans
Hi Team,
I am just setting up a server for a friend, and tried to run the Anywhere Access Wizard. I get the below error.
As WSE requires port 443 to be available every time I try to free like another service takes over. At the moment I have so many processes holding binding to port 443 how can I free this up to run Access Anywhere.
We have a Draytek 2820 Vigor, which has a reserved IP address for the server and has the open ports
1) Can I re-direct the port
2) localhost gives digest error
Regards,
Ajitpal
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have the exact same issue, fresh Server 2012 R2 Essentials and new deployment of Windows 10 Pro 1607. When I tried to run computer connector from/server/connect it failed, no issue with prior Windows 10 Pro, researched the issue and found this from Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40285 choose the .msi for WSE-x64 (it did not specify client or server install) so I had thought the server was the logical choice...WRONG! Based on supported operating systems thought I was right on point…
Results:
Broke Dashboard, Server Manager Dashboard now says “Configuration required for Windows Server Essentials Experience at” also it shows this error message in Server Manager Dashboard when I click on Configure Windows Server Essentials"An error happened while running the Windows Server Essentials Configuration Wizard. Please check the event trace log for detail information."
There’s more:
Also, I cannot manually start the Windows Server Essentials Management Service without producing this error " Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
And I also found this:
