Extending Mirrored Storage Spaces Issue

Hi, I have a windows 2012 essentials machine and I have two storage spaces on it. One has a mirrored virtual disk on it and the other has a virtual disk with a parity layout. I ran out of space on the parity drive and added more drives to it. No problemo.

Now I have run out of space on the mirrored drive and I want to add two new drives to it but I keep getting an error that states that the physical sector size of the disk is incompatible with the storage space.

When I check on the physical sector size on the existing storage space, I see that it has a 4k sector size. I am trying to add two 3TB drives to the storage space. They should also have 4k sector sizes. If I create a new storage space with the 2 3TB drives it works fine. I check the physical sector size and it reports 4k. So what gives? Why can I not add these drives to the existing pool?

I have tried using the control panel applet, the server manager method and through powershell. I always get the "One of the physical disks specified uses a sector size that is not supported by this storage pool." error message.

I have tried this on a windows 8 machine, too, and get the same result.

I am flustered.

I have searched for anyone having an issue with adding a pair of drives to a mirrored virtual disk but haven't found this issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
