WS2012E users folder not showing indexed over network

I just migrated from WHS v1 to Windows Server 2012 Essentials. Everything went more or less smoothly, although I'm having a problem with the \Users\ folders. All of the shares I set up are showing indexed and I'm able to add them to libraries in Windows 7 (home, no domain connection) -- all of the shares, that is, except for the subfolders under \users\.  Is this a permissions bug or a setting I need to tweak?  If this is "by design", I can move the user folders to separate shares, it's just a pain to do so.
