Fresh install fully updated Server 2012 Essentials. I'm just using it as a file server at home. It is the only system on it's domain. Windows 7 x64 system is setup with a staic IP for the LAN and not on the domain and I don't plan to join it either.
When I use RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) over the LAN from the Windows 7 x64 system, 3 out of 5 times the server will lock up and I have to do a hard reset, or hard power off. I also noticed that when I have a successful RDC session and close it on the Win7 system, when I go to the actual server box it shows two users logged in, the Admin user logged into server and the user from the Win7 box.
The server has two onboard Intel NICs. I have one setup to use DHCP for the internet and the other is setup with a static IP for the LAN. Not sure if this is part of the issue, but the Default Gateway IP will not stick on the LAN settings. I add it and close everything and go back in to it and it's blank again. I did check for the blank line in the registry and it did not exist.
I also use two NICs on the Windows 7 machine also, one DHCP for internet and one static IP for LAN.
The funny thing is, I did a test run with the same hardware about a month ago, when testing different OSs, and it worked just fine.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
