Printing Issue Across Multiple Sites

Hey all,

Just re-posting a question as directed from another forum:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/ee68e50d-e241-4f15-ae3e-e1f81882aff3/printing-issue-across-multiple-sites?forum=winserver8gen&prof=required

I have since managed to sort of workaround this problem but would still like some clarity on what causes the problem in the first place, so I can implement a proper solution. (The workaround was to install the printer driver locally rather than via a Print Server)

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has figured out a way to print reliably to an off-site location using Windows Server 2012 Essentials Experience as the print server.

Scenario

Site 1
Located on the coast

On-prem Hyper-V server hosting Server 2012 Essentials Experience as the AD and Print Server, also hosting Server 2012 R2 as the Remote Desktop Server.

N.B. Currently the AD is set up as a Replica Domain Controller as I am shutting down their existing 2003 SBS box.

Site 2

Located on an island off the coast

No on-prem server. Staff connect to the RD Server to do their work

Copier located on site (Xerox brand)

Issue

Staff from Site 1 need to print to Site 2 copier

Previously (on their old SBS 2003 box) the copier was just set up using the external IP of Site 2 as the port, worked fine.

This setup won't work on the new server, the copier appears offline and won't print.

Is this a securities restriction with Server 2012? Is there a way to set this up to be fairly painless for staff at Site 1?

I can't see it being a port forward issue as printing still works from the SBS 2003 box, so the print jobs are being forward correctly from one source

N.B. Printing from Site 2 is not an issue, they can use Redirected printers for their local copier and the printers at Site 1 are loaded fine on the RD Server.

This is the last thing keeping me from shutting down the SBS 2003 box, driving me bananas.

Cheers
