I have a client with a Windows Server 2012 Essentials (not R2) server with RWA working successfully. I can access computers remotely using RWA from a Windows computer. The business owner wants to use RWA on his MacBook Pro but he is having problems. I am testing this out myself using a MacBook Pro, and here is what I found so far.
The steps to access the remote computer are the same between a Windows computer and a Mac computer until you click on the remote computer you want to connect to (listed in the RWA website). On the Mac, when I click connect, the action triggers a download to a .rdp file. I click on the .rdp file and the Mac version of "Remote Desktop Connection for Mac" opens with the Computer: field pre-field with the remote computer's name. I tried putting in different values in the Computer: field, but none worked. For our purposes, let's say the computer name is COMPUTER1 and the domain name is DOMAIN and the computer's IP address is 192.168.1.101. Here is what I put in the Computer: field along with the messages I got in return:
COMPUTER1 -> "The Mac cannot connect because the Windows-based computer cannot be found."
COMPUTER1.DOMAIN.local -> "The Mac cannot connect because the Windows-based computer cannot be found."
192.168.1.101 -> "The Mac cannot connect to the Windows-based computer. The problem can occur if: ..."
Has anyone been able to use a Mac to connect to a remote computer using RWA? Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
