Client computer backup portability and storage sizing

Hi, everybody.

I'd like to know if it's there's a procedure to access files within a "client computer backup" in the format that Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials uses, other than the integrated GUI. I mean if I copy the "Client Computer Backups" folder to another machine, how could I access individual files?

Also, I've noticed that an initial client computer backup is taken when installing the connector software in the client computer.  Is there a switch to skip that backup?

For sizing required backup storage, I've noticed that the initial backup generates a series of .dat files one of them larger in size (say about 4 GB), and for the following backup jobs for that computer, only a small .dat file is produced (incremental backup, I presume).  What criteria does the server use to determine when to perform an incremental backup or a new full backup? I would think it evaluates the % of data blocks modified. Hope you can provide further insight.

Thanks
