I want to upgrade a WSE 2012 box that is running on very old hardware (dual core socket 755). It is the only server on the network. No other server licenses are available. I need to preserve the name, Active Directory, data, and would like to preserve backups.
Apart from the usual bits and bobs, it runs WSUS and a couple of Minecraft servers, and is struggling.
Theoretically, at a very great pinch, I could just transfer the HDD with the OS, then install drivers, right? If I were to go that path, I'd clone the HDD first. But I suspect there's a better way, perhaps a Best Practice document from Microsoft? Unfortunately, my search-fu seems to be lacking. So I turn to you for advice.
