Joining Devices With Existing User Profiles To New Domain

Hello,

I am just about at the point of starting to join some test devices to a new domain.

At this time, we operate using a workgroup, and every user has a local user profile with full admin control of their own computer.

Once the server & domain are fully setup, the time for me to start joining devices to the domain will come.

I have a few questions regarding this step in the setup of a new WSE 2012R2 domain:

-Since every user currently has full admin control over their computer, is it 'safe' to join these computers to a new domain, considering there has been zero control so far as to security settings and so on?

-Would it be a better approach (though much more consuming) to reformat all computers and join the fresh installs to the new domain?

-In the event that I do not reformat a computer, and instead simply join it to the domain as-is, is the entire local user profile converted to a domain profile?

Will all programs and settings installed/configured in the original local user profile still be available and unchanged?

Deep down I hope I can simply go to every user's computer, install the connect software, and be done with it. I would also hope that, the user experience does not change on their machines (other than the new dashboard/launchboard shortcuts and the domain logon).

Thank you very much
