Do 2 Essential licenses support a server with 4 CPU socket

1 win server 2012 essential license support a 2 CPU socket server 

For a DELL R820 server with 4 CPU sockets we then need to assign 2 licenses of essential edition

or we can't do that and need to assign 2 licenses of the more expensive server 2012 standard  edition
