Media sharing browsing performance is horrible

When I try to browse through my MP3 library (shared by WSEs media sharing feature) on my Xbox 360, the performance is horrible. It often takes multiple minutes to load a list of available music files. While displaying a list of albums and their songs is only slow (about 30 seconds to 1 minute to open those lists) opening an Artist can take up to 5 minutes. And it's a really small library ... I have about 50 music albums shared. When monitoring my server during this, the CPU is at 75 % load the whole time while fetching the library.

Yes, it is a small Acer H340 box with an Intel Atom, but running the same machine with WHS2003 media sharing (with the exact same library) works as expected ... browsing through the lists is blazingly fast.

I also noticed that the WSE sharing handles things a bit differently, for example, when selecting "Artists" and then selecting one of them, WHS shows all albums of this artist first, as expected. With WSE, the list of all songs of this artist is loaded directly without a separate album selection, which is bad from a usability experience.

So how can this feature be that slow? I mean, it's only media sharing, even an Atom processor should be handle that easily ... somehow it seems the server does not index the files and searches through them and their contents on every request to the server.

The feature is absolutely unusable in this state :(

Any ideas or anyone else who came across this issue?
