After a couple other successful installs (and subsequent uninstalls after I reinstalled WS2012E), the wizard now fails on my Windows 7 ultimate client. My company laptop connected successfully after the registry edit to avoid joining the WS2012E domain, so I figured doing the same on my personal desktop should be a breeze. But no. :-(
It finds the server, asks me for the server admin credentials, asks whether to wake up the client for backups, and finally asks if I want to participate in the customer experience improvement program. Then it says it's migrating user profiles, and a second or 2 later says Windows Server Client Deployment Wizard has stopped working.
I've tried:
- Uninstalling .Net 4.5
- Starting the 2 Windows Media Center services I read about on a Windows 8 thread
- Deleting the client machine from the server Devices list (although it creates an entry each time the client connector is run)
- Deleting the Client Deployment Files folder from Windows/Temp
- running the client connector as administrator
I'm stumped now. Help please!
